Rhode Island Minorities in Architecture & Design (RIMiAD)

We wanted to take the time to congratulate Rhode Island Minorities in Architecture & Design or RIMiAD for celebrating their one-year anniversary of hosting wonderful meetups designed to connect individuals from underrepresented groups with the design community and allied fields located in the state of Rhode Island.

RIMiAD launched in November 2022. Traza Design has been a member since its launch and are thrilled for the group and their mission at large.

"My interest in RIMIAD mainly stems from my personal experience as a person who immigrated to this country. I had to learn and become integrated into a completely different culture both personally and professionally...RIMiAD focuses on connecting designers who are set in their career to others who may just be starting their own creative journey." - Jorge

RIMiAD meetups have been hosted at incredible venues, all minority owned. Some of these wonderful places included: Kin Southern Table + Bar, TROOP PVD, Yagi, and Afrique D'Lounge. These events could not have been possible without the generous donations of its members and the wonderful sponsors such as: DBVW Architects, Signal Works, Union Studio, and Taste Design Inc.

RIMiAD has many plans that will foster growth in the community. Their meetup events bring professionals and college students together every other month at minority-owned businesses throughout the state. They have announced a fiscal sponsor and partnership with DESIGNxRI to grow their network and expand their organizational reach in Rhode Island. They hope to launch a mentorship program in 2024.
